Hainan’s coastal tourism highway fully opened on 18 Dec 2023 — about 988 km through 12 coastal cities/counties, linking scenic areas, resorts and villages like a string of pearls.
How to travel
Self-drive: ferry across the Qiongzhou Strait into Haikou, then loop the coast; book ferry tickets online where possible.
Sightseeing buses: Haiqi operates selected highway coach routes.
Cycling: use trail stations for rest; follow local traffic rules and the official self-drive guide.
